Why Intel and Yahoo!

That seems to cut to the heart of the matter commercially. There must be millions if not billions of idle server hours globally every day. If there is a central network for selling that “spare” server time companies could ensure that the return on their server investment is a lot higher than it currently is.

And that wouldn’t do the server market much harm either, which is good news for HP and Intel as well as any other company that makes servers and their components.

We conclude by asking why HP chose Intel and Yahoo! to collaborate with. “HP has had a long-standing collaboration with Intel and Yahoo but it’s very likely that other top-line members will join,”says Manley.

One fear of such collaboration is that the fruits of its labour will only be made available to those who helped produce it. Manley, however, doesn’t think we should worry. “Hopefully there will be plenty of fruit to go round,” he says.

To finish off, here are some images of HP Labs boffins doing clever things. We would like to hear your thoughts on cloud computing. Do you agree with Manley's vision? Can you see any drawbacks of computing moving in this direction? Let us know in the HEXUS.community.
