Cannibalising the discrete market
One of the possible reasons, apart from not having the product, that NVIDIA didn't make this move sooner is that by bigging up notebooks containing 9400M graphics it runs the risk of cannibalising its existing notebook discrete market.
Haas effectively admitted as much when he said: "There isn't a big difference in graphics performance between the MacBook [IGP] and the MacBook Pro [IGP + discrete]. When asked if the 9400M cannibalises the discrete market, Haas said: "Quite frankly this is going to be the trend, but it expands the market."
One question that had to be asked concerned ConnectorGate. "The material set is different from the one in question," reassured Haas. He was also asked about future products and said: "We could have a higher performance one out in six months."
Regarding the Apple market, we asked if Apple creative software like Final Cut had any NVIDIA optimisation. "There's nothing NVIDIA-specific on Final Cut but stay tuned - we're fully engaged with Apple on that."
