Having covered the technology, Haas then described the commercial opportunity. As we discussed earlier, NVIDIA has had a look at where growth is coming from in the PC market and concluded it’s notebooks.
Of course it will continue to strive to regain its dominance in the desktop discrete market but, as IDC told us last week, that is likely to be static at best in terms of growth.
NVIDIA quantifies the current notebook market at around 140 million units per year. NVIDIA owns around two thirds of the notebook discrete market but none of the far larger IGP one. Someone at NVIDIA clearly said “hold on a minute” and decided it was time to have a go.
