Gaming tests and power consumption

Naturally enough, even though it's massively overclocked, the Vadim's single GeForce 8800 Ultra can't keep pace with the Ultraviolet's twin SLI'd GeForce 8800 Ultras.

Strangely, though, it does keep pace in Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

But it's firmly put back in its place in Company of Heroes. As you would expect, the GeForce 8800 Ultra is still significantly faster than the GeForce 8800 GTS 640 use in the bargain basement (comparatively speaking) PC Specialist system.

Power consumption

System Vadim Fusion-LQX-Intel-775G2-SLI Ultraviolet Genesis XOC PC Specialist Apollo Q6600-X
Power-draw at idle 272W 372W 185W
Power-draw with all cores subject to Prime95 torture 423W 449W 249W
Power-draw with Prime95 and 3DMark05 game 3 517W 515W 275W

Under-load figures, as read from the mains, are remarkably similar to the Ultraviolet's but the 720W Enermax Infiniti model may struggle if a multi-GPU setup is added at a later date.

Performance summary

We can't argue with the system's 2D performance but would have liked to have seen twin GeForce 8800 Ultras in a PC that costs nearly £6,000. Disagree? Please comment in the HEXUS.community.
