Benchmarks: Temperature and Noise
So is an overclocked 140W processor a good choice for a small-form-factor PC? Evidently so. Scan hasn't had any difficulty in keeping the Haswell-E chip running cool under load, and though the chassis does get noticeably warm when gaming, the readings are well within limits and we didn't experience any throttling during our benchmarks.
As for noise, we've been pleasantly surprised. With the chassis' integrated fan controller set to low, the system really is rather quiet and unobtrusive. Noise levels do ramp-up when gaming, as is to be expected, but the 3XS X99 Micro is still relatively muted for a gaming rig.
