Presentation and Bundle
The review sample arrived in an identical box to all the EPIAs we've seen before it, VIA not needing to push the boat out with new box art every time they throw a new SKU out there.Dream Catalyst, eh? We'll see about that. The box itself is barely bigger than the mainboard, as you'd probably expect. Inside there's not much to go with it, although what you'll see below is possibly review sample specific. We've yet to confirm with VIA just what you'll get in the box.
The driver CD is just that, devoid of any electronic manuals. You have to download those from the VIA website in advance. Just one ATA ribbon was provided for connecting disks to the EPIA, and the I/O backplane shield was the right one for a change, VIA not always getting that right for us in the past!
There's a quickstart manual but that didn't apply to the CN model EPIA we're reviewing, making us hope VIA get the right one in their box for customers. There's also a note about Macrovision and its licensing in the EPIA's display output hardware, and a quick piece about the entire product's compliance with RoHS, a directive for the production and disposal of items with certain materials that are hard to dispose of. This particular EPIA and everything that makes it is RoHS compliant, which we doff our planet protection caps to most profusely.
