Scan's 3XS Z87 Performance GTX isn't part of the company's Quiet Series range, yet it's good to see that certain noise-level refinements have been made. When idle, the system is quieter than some of the other high-performance rigs we've tested.

But idle only tells half the story. Once again, the 4.4GHz overclock proves to be a challenge and the Hydro H60 has to ramp up in speed in order to keep CPU temperature the right side of 90ºC. In doing so, it becomes clearly audible.

The overclocked MSI GeForce GTX 770 isn't the loudest graphics card, but the system as a whole once again becomes clearly audible when gaming. We didn't find it intrusive, but those seeking an ultra-quiet experience may need to tweak the configuration page - switching from a Carbide Series 300R chassis to an Obsidian Series 550D would be a good start.
