MESH Matrix² CrossFire 1900XT gaming performance

MESH Matrix² CrossFire 1900XT gaming performance

To compare the performance of the Radeon X1900 XT 512MB and X1900 master card in a CrossFired setup, we're taking a look at comparative data from our HEXUS Athlon 64 FX-57 coupled to low-latency memory and a Radeon X1900 XTX/master card graphics subsystem. We're also adding in a similar system but with 2 GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB cards in SLI mode. You can find its spec here.

Quake 4

Being a high-end SKU with multi-GPU technology, we tested at 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 resolutions with 4x antialiaing and 8x anisotropic filtering applied.

CrossFire performance is pretty reasonable in comparison to our systems'. Note the lack of performance drop-off as we raise the resolution from UXGA to WUXGA.

Far Cry

Again, there's very little performance drop-off as we scale the resolution ladder, especially in CrossFire mode. There's almost 60% extra performance gained by having a master card hooked up to the an already-fast Radeon X1900 XT.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - HDR

We tested Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory with high-dynamic range (HDR) and 8x AF. 1920x1200 with HDR and 8x AF returns an average framerate of just over 51FPS in non-CrossFire mode. Toggling to CrossFire gives almost a 100% gain.
