BIOS

Shuttle's previous XPC BIOS's have neglected to include any voltage adjustment whatsoever. This seems to be the case here with the SK41G, unfortunately.

The CPU's FSB adjustment depends on which option you've selected via jumper. You can either get 100 - 132MHz or 133 - 165MHz in 1MHz increments. It's unfortunate that the motherboard doesn't support the newer 166FSB XPs. A new divider would have solved that problem.

The DRAM timings are reasonably adjustable. The strictest are shown above. I used them for testing. You cannot run the memory asynchronously to the CPU's FSB. The 1T command rate is nice to see.

The on-board video can take up to 32MB of shared memory. This really does impact on performance as you'll find out on the following pages. USB 2.0 support can be toggled on or off here. You need to access the sub-pages to enable or disable the on-board audio. You don't have the option of toggling the Firewire support.

The SK41G continues the use of the Fan AutoGuardian. It halves the fan's speed and makes the system a quiet affair. You can set the fan to speed up at varying temperatures. The little 200W PSU manages to hold reasonable voltages all round. The only troubling aspect is the fairly low 12v line and the lowish DDR voltage. The PSU had no trouble in running an XP2400, Radeon 9700 Pro, 120GB hard drive and all the ports connected on the motherboard.
