Benchmarks: Power Consumption
Powerful gaming PCs can chew through a fair amount of power, and CyberPower's Infinity Xtreme XT falls just the wrong side of 100W when idle. The figure isn't absurdly high for Intel's best-performing platform, but if you are concerned about power consumption, it's worth noting that Sandy Bridge LGA1155 processors will fare better in this regard.
Applying maximum load to a 130W CPU overclocked about as far as it'll go sees power consumption reach beyond 300W. The i7-3820 at 4.56GHz clearly needs a fair amount of juice.
On the graphics front, the Infinity Xtreme XT's total system-wide power consumption reached 330W during a stint of Aliens vs. Predator. This is a powerful, hungry machine, but that's the price you pay for the buttery-smooth performance that's on offer.
