As mentioned on the previous page, Scan has pre-overclocked the Intel Core i7 920 CPU by almost 1GHz, resulting in an impressive out-the-box clockspeed of 3.65GHz.

In order to achieve this, the CPU's reference clock of 133MHz has been notched up to 183MHz resulting in a QPI frequency of 3,292MHz - that's slightly higher than the 3,200MHz (6,400 effective) of the current top-end Intel Core i7 CPU, the 965 Extreme Edition.

In addition to the QPI and CPU clocks getting a healthy boost, the memory is raised above stock levels to a respectable 1,463MHz. Unlike the previous-generation Core 2-based platforms, the Core i7 920's integrated memory controller should, in theory, better utilise the extra memory bandwidth.

Last but not least, in order to help balance the performance in games with the massively powerful CPU, Scan has seen fit to install a sensibly-priced, pre-overclocked Black Edition GeForce GTX 260 from XFX. Running at pretty impressive clocks of 666MHz, 1,440Mhz and 2,300MHz - for core, shader and memory, respectively - this card isn't too far behind a GTX 280 in terms of outright performance, yet costs a good deal less.
