Power, Temperature and Noise Tests

We examine peak CPU and GPU power consumption when running our benchmarks. It's no surprise to see the Threadripper Pro 3975WX pull significantly more wattage as its 280W TDP is more than double the Ryzen 9 5950X's 105W. The tables are turned when the GPU is being thrashed. Either way, the supplied 1,000W PSU provides enough scope for plentiful graphics and storage upgrades.

Both systems idle at around 70W, by the way.

The benefits of cooling a lower-power chip with premium watercooling is in evidence here. Lenovo, on the other hand, relies on forced air across a large heatsink.

Both cards use air cooling and, despite their differing TDPs, offer similar thermal performance.

Remember we commented on the noise levels? The P620's numerous fans and petite chassis combine to push noise levels to distracting when fully under the pump.
