It is interesting to have both the PC Specialist Vortex S1 and Scan 3XS Gamer 1660 Ti in our charts, as the two sub-£1,000 base units highlight the key differences between Intel and AMD in the mainstream segment.
The six-core, six-thread Core i5-9400F at the helm of the Vortex S1 is superior in terms of IPC and straight-line speed, as evidenced by the PiFast result, but the six-core, 12-thread design of the Ryzen R5 2600 has the upper hand in multi-threaded scenarios. Which is a better fit for a mainstream build? That depends entirely on usage scenario - gamers might favour the Intel, productivity types may lean toward AMD - but there's really no bad option.
