Data performance
We put the X Craft 360 through its paces using the HD Tach 3.0.1 synthetic benchmark tool. This allowed us to test the fitted Hitachi 250GiB SATA drive through USB. We would, of course, have tested the performance by eSATA as well but the absence of an eSATA bracket in-pack meant that wasn’t possible.
The full test rig specifications are below:
HEXUS HDD enclosure - test-equipment specification | |
---|---|
Motherboard | Intel D975XBX2 |
Processor | Intel Quad Core X6600 |
CPU cooler | Corsair Nautilus500 water cooling |
Memory | 4GiB (4 x 1GiB) Corsair XMS2 DHX PC6400 |
Graphic card | BFG Tech 8800GTS 640MiB |
Power supply | Tagan 480W |
Hard drive | Seagate Barracuda 160GiB SATA2 |
Hard drive (in enclosure) | Hitachi HDT722525DLA380 - 250GiB, 8MiB cache, 7,200rpm |
Optical drive | Pioneer 110 DVD re-writer |
Using USB connectivity, the X Craft 360 returned fairly average results. Transfer speeds were around 10% slower than the Antec MX-1. That was a little surprising, although still acceptable.
