Short back and sides

We've made no mention of tools so far – and nor will be doing so later. That's because none are needed to open the case or install or remove a drive.

Cooler Master is keen to highlight this as a selling-point and, for some of us, that's just what it is - it makes life far easier when swapping drives in and out.

However, the ease with which a drive can be quickly removed presents a genuine security risk, especially if the enclosure is going to be used in a normal busy office where lots of people work.

A rod connects between the door and a hinge deep inside, the hinge rising when the door is opened and automatically ejecting the HDD or setting things up to install one.

However, with our sample, the action was quite stiff and required some force to work. And it would be interesting to see how you'd get on if the complex mounting system did fail.

Around the back are three ports – eSATA, USB and DC power-in – plus a power on/off switch.

Overall, the X Craft 360 is a good-looking device that's compact and light, too. The build quality and finish of the product are excellent, with a great deal of care obviously taken in its construction.
