Presentation and Features

Nothing unusual to see here

As you can see, a regular IDE CDRW from the rear with digital and analogue audio connectors, the IDE port itself and your usual 4-pin molex connector for power.

As far as the front of the drive is concerned there is nothing special to see, track skip and eject button, single status LED and a headphone socket and roller volume control for it. The drive itself is your usual tray model, no slot loading fancyness here.

Presentation is above standard by nature of being a full retail product complete with box and retail box contents.

Good looking box with no chance of mistaking it for anything other than 52X

Box contents are sparse however but realistically you get everything needed to get started with the drive.

Everything needed including the all conquering Nero

Analogue audio cable, 4 screws, helpful installation guide incase you are a first time CDRW installer and one piece each of blank CDRW and CDR media along with a copy of the latest version of Nero Burning ROM.

The drive shares similar features to the TX Venus 48X drive reviewed by Tarinder and to highlight the similarities, here's a Nero InfoTool shot to show you exactly what you get.

Nearly indentical to the TX Venus in terms of features

Everything present and correct when compared to any other fast IDE CDRW device with only a lack of Mount Rainier CDRW support to differentiate it from the Venus in terms of CDRW features. You get overburn support on supported media (and Nero will help you get that extra bit of data on such media) and it handles buffer underrun protection using Super Link as you can see from the following shot.

Super Link underrun protection for flawless burning

As Tarinder mentions in the Venus review, sourcing 24X CDRW media is somewhat of a challenge and therefore the supplied piece of media is a simple 10X part, however the CDR blank supplied is rated to 52X so it shouldn't be a problem for the drive to show a good turn of speed in our tests.
