Introduction

Tarinder recently looked at a 48x/24x/28x CDRW drive in the form of the TX Venus II 48/24/48 and it took me by surprise that drives had managed to get that fast. After being used to my 12/10/32S Plextor for such a long time and being happy with the performance for 99% of that time, I wasn't interested in anything quicker at all. I only used the drive for infrequent archival of important files. But the time came when my DivX collection got too big for my hard drives to hold and I had to archive masses of it to CDR to make room for my next big batch of encodes.

So writing 40+ CDR's at 12x, each a full 700MB in size had me yearning for something much faster. So when CyberDrive popped up and let me know they were looking to release a fresh set of products in the UK soon, including a 52x CDRW drive, I couldn't say no. You may have a CyberDrive CDRW in your system already, I've seen drives from them pop up in many an OEM box, but in retail channels they seem to be less visible but hopefully that will change.

52x/24x/52x CDRW, fastest on the market

52x CDR writing is currently the fastest speed available and a few different manufacturers will sell you a 52x drive. They all seem to be rebadged versions of the same bare drive just with customised firmware and different packaging. Although I can't confirm that fact, it seems to be the case. With this 52x from CyberDrive, that might be the case again but it's largely irrelavent.

So let's see what we get in the box and refer back to Tarinders TX Venus review where possible for a comparison.
