Benchmarks: Power Consumption
For a four-bay unit, Buffalo's power consumption figures are quite impressive. Idle and load figures are among the best we've seen, but the LinkStation's green credentials aren't perfect as the NAS offers no automatic spin-down function for any of its four internal drives.
Users can set the LinkStation to wake and sleep at pre-defined daily intervals via the web-based admin panel, and a PC Interlocking Power Management service is built in to allow the NAS to turn off and on in sync with any attached PCs, but the inability to spin down hard disks after a period of inactivity is still a surprise omission.
