Benchmarks: Power Consumption
The increase in performance does come at a cost, though. And we're not just referring to the initial outlay.
In use, the performance-orientated components of the N7700PRO draw their fair share of power, with a seven-drive array consuming around 70 watts when idle and around 90 watts under load.
Fortunately, for the eco-conscious buyer, Thecus does implement a standby mode through which drives can be configured to spin down after a predefined period of inactivity (you can choose anywhere between 30 and 300 minutes in 30 minute increments). With the drives in standby, power consumption falls to just over 30 watts. Note, also, that the addition of the PCIe 10GbE NIC increases system power draw by a further few watts.
