Benchmarks: Power and Noise
Power consumption is in line with our expectations of an efficient dual-bay NAS, however we did experience an oddity with the 'hard drive sleep function' enabled in that our 8TB Seagate drives would wake at regular intervals unexpectedly. There isn't an option in TOS to specify how long a drive needs to be idle before entering sleep, but keeping drives asleep proved problematic.
We've also noticed that the Seagate drives are noisier than the WD Reds used to test older devices. They are clearly audible in the F2-221 and the noise can be distracting if the NAS is positioned close by.
