Wired, USB and Efficiency
Despite the increase in wireless performance, there's still a good argument for having cables run throughout the home. Wired networking remains the preferred and most stable route to rock-solid performance.
Want network-attached storage without a full-blown NAS? Most modern routers have the ability to share data across the network from a USB device. With our external SSD attached to the WRT32X's USB 3.0 port, we managed competitive read and write speeds of 572Mbit/s and 309Mbit/s, respectively.
A dual-core 1.8GHz processor may sound somewhat meaty, yet this remains an energy efficient package. Heat wasn't a concern during use - the router is well ventilated - but at this stage you have to wonder how the WRT32X can warrant a £300 price tag. On all the graphs thus far, the £200 WRT3200ACM would deliver practically identical results, so it's up to KPE to justify the added expense.
