Brightness, Blacks and Contrast
It is good news all round in these tests. SDR brightness is ample at 465 nits, and the upside to VA technology is that black levels and contrast are typically superior to IPS alternatives.
The end result is a vivid image that pops, but as is the case with just about all monitors, the panel isn't fit for every purpose. Entry-level HDR400 certification implies perfunctory HDR performance - there's no localised dimming to help - and though the 1000R curve works well when gaming, we did find it takes some getting used to when carrying out everyday desktop tasks.
This is very much a gaming-first solution, and in that sense there's plenty to like. Achieving the framerates needed to make the most of the 240Hz refresh rate is possible with modern hardware at the native QHD resolution, input lag and ghosting appear minimal, and though black crush does stifle some of the finer details in dark scenes, this is one of the better VA implementations we've seen.
