Gamut, Colour and Brightness
Most modern monitors now offer 100 percent sRGB coverage - the iiyama included - so we choose to chart the wider AdobeRGB and DCI-P3 standards. The giant Philips is exemplary in both regards, yet we consider a score of over 80 per cent on the DCI-P3 test to be very good, and the iiyama does well for a £400 unit.
Testing colour accuracy against a sample of 48 shades, the iiyama is shown to be well configured in its out-the-box state. An average Delta-E of less than one can be deemed very good, though subjectively speaking, the default GB3461WQSU image is a little warmer than I'm accustomed to.
The 43in Philips Momentum is one of the brightest monitors we've ever tested, so while the iiyama G-Master GB3461WQSU pales in comparison, it gets close to the advertised 350-nit brightness. Decent numbers, but as expected, black levels and limited contrast are such that HDR is best left disabled.
It is all too easy to get bogged down by the technical characteristics of modern displays. The iiyama isn't expected to be perfect at £399, yet it offers a thoroughly enjoyable image and represents a meaningful upgrade from an older 16:9 panel.
