Storage on MSI's Z170A Gaming M7 lagged about 5 to 10 per cent behind ASUS in our synthetic tests. We couldn't quite put our finger on the cause of the gap since both motherboards use the chipset to control USB 3.0 and SATA III data transfers. M.2 performance was a lot closer, mind.
