Benchmarks II

On to MP3 encoding now.

The above graph shows the time taken to crunch 609MB of WAVs into 192kb/s MP3 format. As the test loads up the computational units heavily, pure clock speed will always win the day. That's evident from 3.2GHz of Pentium 4 clock power.

DVD encoding, though, is a little more memory intensive. The P4's sleek SSE2 works wonders here, outdistancing the usually formidable Athlon 64 3200+ by a distinct margin. The SiS is close enough to the Intel boards to be considered a performance contender.

KribiBench didn't far as well as expected on the SiS655FX. This software renderer is heavily optimised for the Pentium 4 and, as such, shows a profound preference for it. The test involves rendering a jet fighter with a single spot light focused on it. The polygon count is just under 16,000. Remember that the CPU and memory is required to do most of the work. The rendering is set to realistic mode.
