Performance Conclusion

In terms of comparison against the other 4 systems in the benchmark tests, we can conclude 2 things. Firstly, it has no real world performance advantage over the other systems in the group. For review leading performance, you'd need a faster processor at the helm. But secondly, performance was certainly not the slowest in the group. Against a background of broadly generic performance across the board it's hard to say that but it was certainly the case that the EPoX held its own against the other systems and wasn't the slowest on test.

Strong performance was observed and the EPoX can hold its head up high among its peers. 4G4A+ is definitely a performance platform, despite the apparent business bent with the i845G on board.

One thing to note about the EPoX was its unofficial support for DDR333 memory and while untested in terms of this review and by default having the wrong memory multiplier for DDR333 support (4:3 instead of 5:4 giving 176MHz memory at 133MHz CPU front side bus instead of 166MHz), after the board had left my hands it became apparent that DDR333 support and the correct multiplier was present upon adjusting a jumper on the board. Worth investigating if your memory can't quite do DDR354 speeds.

Overall performance was excellent and if a performance board is what you are looking for, put the 4G4A+ on your list.

But as I've said before, features are king so lets take a look at the board as a whole.
