Software Setup

Alienware configure all Area51-m Extreme's with Windows XP, Service Pack 1, all current Windows Update patches at the time of shipping, all current drivers and some added software applications.

They configure you a single Administrator-class account, named according to who ordered it, so HEXUS.net for me, with a cute little Alienware graphic for your picture on the Welcome screen.

The entire disk is setup as a single NTFS partition, common practice for laptop vendors where capacity is limited to a usual 60GB, as it is here.

Extra software runs only to Ahead's Nero 6 suite of CD and DVD authoring applications and a copy of PowerDVD 5 from Cyberlink. A bit disappointing, since a CD full of high quality, free, applications wouldn't be hard to compile and slip into the presentation binder.

Notable hardware-related software runs to the C-Media driver control panel and a cool applet for controlling the 802.11a+b+g WiFi module.
