Introduction

ASUSTeK W1 Carbon Fibre notebook

ASUSTeK (ASUS), the multi-faceted giant that ships around 30-million motherboards a year, has steadily diversified into related sectors and now produces a line of PDAs, screens, graphics cards, barebone systems and laptops. It impressed us recently with its Napa-powered A6JA notebook, which highlighted the performance benefits of Intel's mobile dual-core CPUs.

This time around, ASUS sent us its W1 Carbon notebook, a limited-run design that ships with a carbon lid and lovely brushed aluminium chassis. Focussing on multimedia performance, the W1 Carbon is, perhaps, the best-looking laptop to grace HEXUS Labs. Is it a case of form over function, or has ASUS got it just right with its £1,500 box-of-tricks?. Let's find out.
