Notes

The Toshiba Satellite A300D is up against another Turion Ultra ZM-80-powered notebook in the form of the HP Pavilion TX2520 Puma that we looked at recently. Adding in some comparison numbers is a AMD 690G-based Dell Inspiron 1721 and a couple of machines around Intel's Centrino platform, with the Novatech featuring a Centrino 2-based processor and the Dell a Centrino with discrete graphics from NVIDIA.

Benchmarks were run three times and the scores averaged, apart from the time-consuming battery-life test. The sole gaming test is the venerable Quake 4, run at 1,280x1,024 medium-detail settings and with 8x AF. The engine scales well with power, and we expect laptops with discrete graphics cards and up-to-date IGPs to cope with it.

All tests, bar the battery-life, were carried out with WiFi set to on.
