Benchmarks: Vitals and Battery Life
It's fascinating to see how Ultrabooks have evolved over the years. We see decent-enough performance gains with each new generation, power consumption stays around the same, but battery life is improved significantly. Lenovo has managed to shoehorn a higher-capacity 57Wh battery into the 2017 X1 Carbon, and run time is exemplary.
To test battery life we loop a high-definition movie clip with 50 per cent screen brightness and flight mode enabled, timing how long it takes each laptop to succumb to hibernation. Lenovo's 2017 flagship managed to keep going for just over 13 and a half hours, representing a 233 per cent improvement over the 2012 original.
