Warranty, Support and Cost

Warranty and build options

The basic warranty for the SavRow Katana 3D-9 is a generous two-year collect-and-return (within the UK), with full technical backup and access to SavRow's support forums for as long as you like. A three-year warranty adds a further £125 to the cost. You can also pay extra to get SavRow to do your build faster than normal but you'd REALLY need the PC in a hurry - the premium for this service is £100.

Cost

The cost for the unit, as reviewed is £2,054 without VAT. The standard hard disk option for the 3D-9, that SavRow expect their customers to choose, is the 60GB 8MB cache disk that spins at 7200rpm. The 5400rpm 100GB Seagate Momentus drive in the sample, while more capacious, is somewhat slower. SavRow also expect most customers to specify 2GB of memory, although the sample wasn't configured as such, coming as it did with 1GB.

Support

This is where SavRow excel. Its engineers, one of whom I've had the chance to meet personally and talk tech with, are on the ball. The company certainly knows its products inside out and I couldn't trip up its engineers. James Smith, SavRow's R&D man, was on hand to help me out with any queries. Although I don't know for sure, based on my experience with SavRow's staff, I'd expect paying customers to be treated at least as well as I was.
