The Legion Y520 may have a Core i7 processor, but it is a gaming laptop first and foremost, and the accompanying GeForce GTX 1050 isn't what we'd call a hard-hitter. The entry-level Nvidia GPU manages an average 3DMark score of 5,517, suggesting modest gameplay potential at the native full-HD resolution.

Running a trio of modern games reveals the laptop's limitation. When gaming at 1080p, image quality needs to be reduced to a near-minimum in order to get close to the desired 60 frames per second. The GeForce GTX 1050 ultimately struggles to justify the Legion Y520's Ā£999 price point, and a model outfitted with GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 graphics would be far better suited to fluid gameplay.
