How fast is the GeForce GTX 1050? The answer is not very. The 640-core GPU is a is a big step down from the 1,280-core GTX 1060, resulting in a stunted 3DMark Fire Strike score of 4,113. That's over 50 per cent lower than a laptop outfitted with a GTX 1060, and there isn't anywhere near enough power to pass the VRMark Orange Room test.

Limited GPU potential means limited gaming potential. The ROG Strix GL753VD will serve as a sensible choice for eSports users whose demands don't stretch beyond the likes of Counter Strike or League of Legends, but the GTX 1050 will struggle to deliver a smooth experience in modern titles.

We've benchmarked Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Hitman and Rise of the Tomb Raider at the laptop's native resolution, and quality settings need to be dropped down to a bare minimum to get anywhere near the desired 60 frames per second. Deus Ex, the most demanding title, only just sneaks past 30 fps.

Can a GeForce GTX 1050 really be this basic? Perusing our log files suggests that the GPU is throttling to roughly 1,300MHz, revealing that the Asus implementation leaves something to be desired.
