It's the GeForce GTX 1060 that ultimately makes the GL702VM an appealing proposition for gamers. Said GPU out-muscles the previous-generation GeForce GTX 980M, making it a potent choice for gaming laptops that don't break the bank.

3DMark scores are healthy across the board, with the laptop showing good stability during the demanding Time Spy Stress Test. Asus's virtual reality claims are backed-up, too, as the GL702VM has what it takes to get the 5,000 points required to pass the VRMark examination, hinting at suitability for the likes of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
Gaming is the GL702VM's main purpose and Asus has managed to find something of a sweet spot. The combination of a Core i5 chip and GTX 1060 graphics is ideally suited to a 1080p panel. Three of the four test games run very well at the native resolution with quality settings dialled-up to maximum. It's only in Deus Ex that image quality needs to be sacrificed in order to lift frame rate, but even so, turn on G-Sync and you get a beautifully smooth image and a very enjoyable experience.
