System Setup and Notes

Scan's White Cobra

The nForce4 SLI platform that I used for my initial SLI articles was used to test the MSI boards. You can see a few pictures here.

The basic system spec is as follows.

Hardware

2 x MSI GeForce 6600 GT-TD128E, PEG16X, 128MB, 500/1000
2 x NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT, PEG16X, 128MB, 500/1000
2 x NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, PEG16X, 256MB, 350/1000
AMD Athlon FX-55, 2600MHz, 1MB L2, Socket 939
ASUS A8N-E SLI, Socket 939, nForce4 SLI
1GB Corsair XMS3200, DDR400
160GB Maxtor MaxLine II ATA
Tagan TG480-U01

Software

Windows XP w/ Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.0C
NVIDIA ForceWare 66.93
Futuremark's 3DMark 2001 and 3DMark05
Valve's Half Life 2
iD Software's Doom 3
Crytek's Far Cry

Notes

I've left out a few of the theoretical benchmarks for good reason. Clocked at 500/1000 and using the same driver as the boards in the original SLI article, performance is very similar. So if you're going to wade through some benchmark results that don't show much variance, I'm sure you'd rather do so on games you're likely to play.
