3DMark
3DMark is the latest version of this hugely-popular synthetic benchmark. Making use of DX11 features such as tessellation, compute shaders and multi-threading, it provides modern-day results and is available as a free download.
This synthetic DX11 test is a reasonable proxy for how you would expect the GPUs to perform in a wide range of games. Pointing to a signs of things to come, the stock-clocked GTX 1060 sits halfway between overclocked GTX 970 and GTX 980 GPUs. Importantly for Nvidia, the newest Pascal GPU is also quicker than the AMD Radeon RX 480... but not 20 per cent faster.
