Foxconn 8600GT-256 - bundle, presentation and warranty

The under-utilised 'Halloween in space' theme seems to have been the inspiration for Foxconn's box design.

Items

Utility CD
Drivers/manuals CD
User manual
Two DVI dongles
Combined output lead for component HDTV and S-Video

Alongside the usual manual and drivers CD there's also a utility CD.

This contains two programs from FarStone - the VirtualDrive Pro (V10) CD/DVD emulation app and RestoreIT V7 backup application. Both seem strange choices to bundle with a graphics card and would be more at home as part of a motherboard package.

[advert]A pair of DVI adaptors and a combined output cable for component video and S-Video complete the bundle. Together they give all the output options you could hope for - other than HDMI.

Warranty

Foxconn provides a two-year warranty for the 8600GTS-256 but this starts from the date of manufacture, not purchase. So, if the card you buy has been sat around in a warehouse for a while, you'll get a rather shorter warranty than you'd bargained for!

The warranty is transferable between users and is implemented through the reseller - so make sure you purchase the card from a company you trust.

Summary

Apart from the utilities CD, Foxconn has included a sensible, if uninspiring, selection of extras.

The warranty is a little disappointing, though. We fail to understand why the guarantee doesn't start from the date of purchase. Anything else is a recipe for confusion and distress.
