Overclocking

Stock-clocked is a term we won't be using regularly when discussing the GTX 960. There is plenty of frequency headroom and we aren't expecting to see many cards dialled in at the reference 1,126MHz base and 1,178MHz boost.

Asus has already raised speeds to 1,253MHz and 1,317MHz, respectively, for the DirectCU II, and with no added voltage we were easily able to add another 107MHz to the core clock. With the overclock in place, we recorded an actual boost frequency of 1,474MHz when gaming, and the Asus card showed no signs of throttling. For good measure, we also notched-up memory to an effective 8,000MHz.

At these speeds, we see the performance of Asus's GTX 960 DirectCU II increased to the tune of a further 10 per cent.
