Given we know how the Aeolus performs already and that the ASUS is a reference clocked model (475/950DDR), we're basically interested in how it fares against 9800XT in our tests and little more. The nature of a non reference board review, where we have hindsight using previous articles, I'm afraid.

3DMark 2001SE result

Strong performance compared to 9800XT in the popular DirectX 8.1 class test. The pixel shader hardware doesn't get tested too much, it's unable to show NV38's main weaknesses. In a class of test like this, 5950 Ultra will be as good as anything else, performance wise.

As far as image quality goes, 52.16 has been shown to render things pretty well, with no great image quality differences compared to recent CATALYST output. Anti-aliasing image quality is something that is possibly subjectively worse on NVIDIA cards, depending on how you like your games to look. I guess we long for the days when cards can do eight sample supersampling without a card killing fillrate hit.

The V9980U holds up well.
