3DMark 2001SE
A quick word about what to expect from the Aeolus when up against the mighty ASUS 9800XT/VTD. If you've read my ASUS review, you'll know that it's pretty neck and neck between Radeon 9800XT and GeForceFX 5950 Ultra, all things considered. Each one is faster than the other in various benchmarks, the valid questions are "by how much?" and "how does that affect price/performance?". I'll try to answer them as we go on. Here's the 3DMark 2001 SE info and graph.- Author: MadOnion/Futuremark
- DirectX Class: 8.1
- Pixel and Vertex Shaders: Yes (Nature test) PS1.1/1.4
9800XT dominates initially, with a thousand marks on an FX 5950 Ultra when running the default benchmark. The memory bandwidth advantage accounts for the clawing back of performance as AA and AF are applied, especially as pixel count gets big in the 1600x1200 test. It's all about render setup here. In a DX8.1 class test, multitexture heavy, FX 5950 Ultra is pretty good, keeping pace with the ATI hardware. Overall, the Aeolus has less than 1% variance compared to the reference board results I recorded recently.
