Quake III

Quake III's turn now. A consistent, useful test, even to this day. Demo Four is benchmarked with the game patched up to PR1.30.

Even the underpowered Siluro FX 5600 DT 256MB can muster 200FPS+ at the high quality setting. The Radeons' scores seemed to have increased markedly since the 3.5 driver set.

Now bandwidth conservation comes into play. The pure grunt of the 9800 PRO manages to keep its scores over the 300FPS mark, but the FX 5600 256MB falls into sub-100FPS hell.

Just add a whole load more pixels and watch the cards begin to become severely limited. The Siluro FX 5600's 256MB buffer is useless here. We'd rather have had identical clocks with respect to the 128MB card, which is over 50% faster.
