Crysis 3

Homepage: Crysis.com/us/crysis-3 | Publisher: Electronic Arts | Developer: Crytek

Crysis 3 is a beautiful-looking game that continues to tax high-end systems. We've FRAPS'd a 30-second section near the start of the game, with lashing rain, numerous reflections and full DX11 pomp on show.

Crysis 3 is notoriously hard on modern GPUs. R9 280X provides smooth gameplay at 1080p, matching GTX 770 and HD 7970 GE. R9 270X can just about hold its own at 1080p and, quite rightly, the $139 R7 260X raises the white flag in response to Crysis 3's needs.

Per-second examination - R9 270X - 1,920x1,080

Examining R9 270X's comparative performance first, AMD's $199 card barely drops below 30fps. Good stuff.

Per-second examination - R9 280X - 2,560x1,440

Raise the resolution bar and the framerates stay more or less the same for the higher-end trio. AMD continues to offer more value than Nvidia at the new price points.
