Overclocking

Pushing past out-of-the-box frequencies was achieved by using the utility baked into the Catalyst Control Center.

We'd hazard the memory frequency is limited by the maximum permissible level in CCC, 1,450MHz (5,800MHz effective). The core, meanwhile, can be increased to a speed that's comfortably higher than other pre-overclocked HD 7870s we've looked at over the past year or so.

The result? An extra 10 per cent over shipping clocks. Translating this into real-world gaming, the bleeding-limit performance of the HD 7870 Devil is akin to a Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition's.
