Using the All-In-Wonder III

The only other task I dedicated to the All-In-Wonder was watching TV on the desktop. ATI make a big deal of ThruView here. it's a simple technology that makes the TV window transparent and shows all your work above it. You can work, and have TV playing on the desktop without blocking off any window at all. Cool stuff, and worth a dodgy digicam shot I think you'll agree.

That's me editing a HEXUS review in Homesite, with George transparently acting away underneath. Any window brought over the video would just blend on top, showing the video through the screen. Thru the screen too, I think. Marketing says so anyway. Without ThruView enabled, you get the skinned window and the controls.

It's worth noting that depending on how you setup EASYLOOK, you can't control a video or DVD or TV in window on desktop mode, with the remote. Since EASYLOOK can be programmed to enable itself on any remote button press, trying to control the video with it, in that mode, just causes full screen display mode and a takeover of your desktop. Switchable EASYLOOK profiles with a remote key would be nice, maybe something for ATI to look in to for MMC9.0 and the next update of the RemoteWonder software?

Speaking of the RemoteWonder software, it has a few configuration options, to control the programmable buttons on the remote, and to interface with external software via RW plugins. RW ships with a couple, and a couple are available from the ATI website too. There's an SDK for hackers to come up with interfaces for their software to work with RW too, nice one ATI.

You get control over the mouse speed when manipulating it via the remote too, so your cack handed stabs at the plastic silver box of goodies doesn't cause erratic movement and embarassment, whilst you queue up that copy of a film your girlfriend hates, that's listed in between some porn you didn't want her to see, underneath your Spice Girls MP3's. That didn't happen to me, honest.
