Drivers
We'll have a quick look at the very latest Catalyst 3.5 drivers to see if anything major has changed since the last official set. It also gives us another chance to see just how ATi approach the software element of things.Verification of the newest driver set. ATi has been reasonably productive on the software front. That's in stark contrast to ATi of a few years ago.
We had expected a slight change in the Direct3D settings, yet everything seems to be carried over intact from the 3.4s.
OpenGL settings remain intact. We used the above settings when running benchmarks, assuming no antialiasing and anisotropic filtering is applied.
Outputting to a number of sources has always been important to ATi. VGA, component (increasingly found on high-end TVs), standard TV-out and the all-important DVI connections are catered for. One can tab into each category, once selected, to further fine-tune the settings. Simple and effective.
One quirky aspect we must note was the inability to correctly apply varying levels of either anisotropic or antialiasing filtering in Direct3D applications. Rage3DTweak was used to manually force the settings. Strange indeed.
