As you can see below, the breakout box provides user's access to Stereo RCA Inputs for left and right audio, a Composite video input and an S-Video input for a video signal. These inputs provide a range of options for connecting various devices such as a camcorder, VCR, gaming console.
Breakout box
One of the more popular uses for the breakout box is found with a Digital TV Box, such as Sky Digital, OnDigital or NTL/Telewest Digital.
Standard terrestrial TV comes through an analogue Ariel, and the tuner incorporated onto the All-In-Wonder series is restricted to decoding analogue.
While this proves fine for the standard broadcasts, such as BBC1, BBC2, ITV, CH4 and Five for the UK, the tuner is not capable of decoding a digital TV signal. This function is performed by the chosen 'digibox', so by the time it reaches the output stage, there is no additional decoding necessary as such.
This results in having to connect an RF patch lead from the chosen digibox to the RF input on the card, meaning you would only be able to tune into the pre-decoded signal, a single channel, and you would have change channel via the digibox remote.
If you are going to be receiving a single channel, which is changed via an external variable (your digibox remote), it is more advantageous to ensure that single connection is as high quality as possible.
With the addition of a Scart signal separator which will split the Scart signal from the digibox into 4 separate signals, mirroring the inputs available on the breakout box, you would then be able to view a single, high quality TV stream, significantly higher quality than that of the basic RF connection. This will obviously render the integrated TV tuner largely unnecessary, but would still allow the connection of a second device such as a VCR or console through the traditional RF Connection.
The card comes bundled with both a composite video and s-video cable for providing connection to the Breakout Box for the above method of TV input and other said uses, so almost everything one would need for a TV input of practically any type is supplied, or at least supported.
