Benchmarks II

On to the most widely used bench of them all. Quake 3. We are using patch v1.30, and to make it more of a comparison we will run this bench with fastest and high quality settings. This is the Four.dm_66 demo.

Well I certainly didn't expect these results with the P4 clearly pushing the pixels a bit harder, but 45fps. Its close with the 4X and 8X scores with .5 fps or less between them.

Same again as above a massive FPS difference between the 2 platforms.

On to Unreal Tournament 2003. This benchmark is run via the benchmark.exe file found in the system directory of the demo. It runs at the selected resolution and produces scores as an average both in Flyby mode and Botmatch.

Its more of the same here with the p4 romping ahead except for some reason the overclocked results for some reason are not in line and are actually below the scores of stock speed.

Finally let’s have a look at how these systems coped with Code Creatures benchmark. This test runs through 3 different resolutions 1600x1200, 1280x1024, and 1024x768 then gives you a final score.

Now this test recommends a minimum of 512MB of memory but for the P4 benches as I already stated I was limited to 256MB so the results are not accurate between the 2 platforms as not mirrored with specs.

Finally a glimmer of hope for the 8X AGP with it edging ahead of the 4X score by the slightest margin. Shame there was no other memory available to make these scores comparable for the P4.
