PNY Verto 128MB 8x

PNY have slowly been making a name for themselves on the graphics card front. Using their in-house Verto brand that was first introduced in June 2001, their ethos seems to be in providing stylish cards, based on a myriad of NVIDIA GPUs, at attractive prices. I must preface this particular card by stating that PNY are currently revamping their packaging and presentation. The following may not be indicative of what you actually receive.

Contradictory messages are put out by the current packaging - the box is from the existing 64MB Ti 42xx range but the sticker seems to indicate that the card is from the newer 8x AGP 128MB stable. The latter is the case once you examine the card.

I like the look of the PNY card. The maroon PCB and multi-coloured cooler give it a hi-tech look. Incidentally, the cooler appears to be very similar in construction to the Gainward coolers we looked at earlier. I would have liked the heatsinks to match the aesthetic appeal of the rest of the card. Featuring only TV-Out (SAA7104) on this particular model with no provision for VIVO. We can infer that its selling point lies in price.

Pretty much what we'd expect here. The heatsinks seem well placed on the RAM modules - always a good sign.

PNY appear to be the only ones on test to actually brand the back of the card. It's inconsequential but it shows attention to detail in a homogenous world. You'll know just what each connector does on the back.

I'll refrain from commenting on the bundle as packaging, presentation, and the associated bundle are currently being revamped. You can see the rough-and-ready nature of the supplied extras. Still, the all-important DVI-to-VGA adapter is present.
