Gaming Performance

AIW Radeon X1900 was benchmarked against AIW Radeon X1800 XL in three games, under Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Tested resolution each time was 1920x1200, AA and AF each time was 4x and 8x respectively. AIW Radeon X1900's difference normalised to X1800 XL is what's reported.

gaming

The AIW Radeon X1900 is, despite having the same engine clock and lower memory clock (although only by 10MHz), faster than the AIW Radeon X1800 XL by around 13% on average, over the three tested games titles. Remember that R580 boosts fragment processing rate by three times, theoretically.

While not shown explicitly, that results above means there's essentially the equivalent 3D gaming performance of a GeForce 7800 GTX (256MiB version) in the AIW Radeon X1900. That's significant, and we'll explain why in the conclusion.
