Benchmarks III

We'll conduct the same analysis on MOHAA. The basic in-game settings have been set to maximum.

The benchmark is seemingly capped at around 100fps. Both our cards score the same at 1024x768x32. A familiar story presents itself as we got up the resolution ladder. The R9700 is over 50% faster at 1600x1200x32.

How about our medium image quality setting of 2x FSAA and 2x AF ?

We apply a little quality to our benchmark and the GeForce4 Ti 4600 quickly raises the white flag.

Let's turn up the heat with 4x FSAA and 8x anisotropic filtering.

I'm not entirely sure if the Ti 4600 was applying the required 4x FSAA at this setting. Even if it was, the Radeon 9700 Pro continues dishing out the punishment. 1280x1024x32 with 4x FSAA and 8x AF was smooth. I never thought I would be saying that this soon.

Again, to show you that the settings do make a difference. Here are some shots, this time zoomed a little, to show you the differences between settings. We're looking through a 'scope here towards the enemy.

No FSAA or AF

The edge of the car is heavily jaggied, even at 1280x1024x32. The texture on the ground is non-existent.

2x FSAA and 2x AF

The ground is clearer. The bricks on the left-hand-side are sharper (aniso). The wheel arch and door panel are now less jaggied than above (FSAA).

4x FSAA and 8x AF

The ground texture is much-improved than either of the two shots above thanks to our aniso sampling. The car's arch and side panel are much cleaner and more life-like now thanks to the FSAA.
